IF you don’t already know this, then here is how you set up your Microsoft Ad Center campaign so that the results can be tracked with Google Analytics.
You have to “tag” the destination URL with tracking code that Google Analytics can decipher. This URL becomes the destination URLfor each ad group you create. I find the easiest way to create this url is to use the Google URL builder tool. You can find this tool by going to
Put the following info in each field.
Campaign Source –Bing
Campaign Medium –CPC or PPC
Campaign Term - for now just put in “keyword” without the quote marks. Note we are not putting in a specific keyword term, but setting the URL tagging up so that all keywords will be recognized. We will add some brackets around that term once the url is generated.
Campaign Content-put your ad group name here in my example “adgroup one”
Campaign Name – put the campaign name here: in my example “electric”
In this example the URL builder creates the following:
http://www.mywebsite.com/landingpage.html?utm_source=bing&utm_medium=cpc&utm_term=keyword&utm_content=adgroup%2Bone&utm_campaign=electric
You are almost set, but you need to put brackets {} around “keyword”. See below
http://www.mywebsite.com/landingpage.html?utm_source=bing&utm_medium=cpc&utm_term={keyword}&utm_content=adgroup%2Bone&utm_campaign=electric
If you put {keyword} (with brackets) into the URL builder you will get %7Bkeyword%7D which will not work when you set up the Bing campaign, so that is why I insert the brackets after I create the URL.
Take this URL and create a Bing ad group – us the URL as the destination URL.
When creating several Bing ad groups, make sure you stay consistent with all the terms when you generate the URLs.
